Conversations on the Couch with Brodie G (13)

Brodie is a cricket playing, North Melbourne loving, Year 7 student and big brother to Hannah who's almost 9. He's just started learning to play the guitar, which he loves and has the most amazing smile! Brodie is also one of the kindest most gentle young men I know and he's shared some of his 13-year-old wisdom in this very special Conversation on the Couch.

If you could be anyone in the world for just one day, who would you be and why?

I would like to be Dwayne Bravo because he's a famous West Indian cricket player and I really like him and I think that if I was famous then I'd be able to raise a lot of money for charities and stuff.

If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?

If I could have a superpower, I'd like to be able to fly cause I think it'd be really fun, but then because I'd also be able to see things like fires and then I could make sure someone knew and then they could be put out and we could save forests and places like that.

What question should I ask you?

Brodie: You should aks me what would I do if I ever felt sad or depressed.

Me: Wow. Great question. Why didn't I think of that? Okay, Brodes, what would you do if you ever felt sad or depressed?

Brodie: First of all I'd be around my friends more and go outside and be more active because that always makes me feel better and cheers me up.

Me: You know what Brodes, you'd make a great psychologist! That's great advice for all of us.

What are the best things about being a teenager?

Well I have more independence and more responsibilities at home. Sometimes I get to stay home by myself because mum and dad trust me to do stuff like that.

What are the worst things about being a teenager?

People have more expectations of me now, like I'm supposed to be good all the time because I'm old enough to know better, and I also have to do more jobs like the vacuuming.

If you could travel in time where would you go and why?

I'd definitely like to travel into the future to when I'm older, to see what I look like (adds lots of giggles) and to see if I'm a sports teacher. I'd also like to see where I live.

What are the best things about Mum and Dad?

They drive me lots of places and they let me play lots of sports and they love me.

Who is your best Aunty or Uncle and why?

They're all pretty good (big grin).

If you could change any law, what would it be and why?

I would make it so that poorer people didn't have to pay as much tax as richer people.

What's the most disgusting thing you can think of?

Having to dissect an animal.

Which football team do you barrack for?

North Melbourne Kangaroos.
